Why choose fiberglass cloth? Estimate the budget for my project in 2 minutes
Fiberglass cloth is a bit more expensive than wallpaper, but it is easier to install. It has great strength and allows you to hide flaws and imperfections. Additionally, there are many textures and different patterns. However, the only downside is that fiberglass cloth is very difficult to remove once installed.
Materials for painting a cloth
- Brush
- nylon water sponge
- roller
- paint tray
- acrylic paint
- paint of your choice (acrylic or glycerin)
- tarp to protect the floor
- masking tape
Steps to paint your cloth
First, always protect the floor and apply masking tape where you don’t want to paint.
- Clean the fiberglass cloth
If you decide to paint an old fiberglass cloth, it may be greasy and covered in dust. To clean it, nothing could be simpler:
- Brush the cloth with a nylon brush.
- If a stain is present, wash it by mixing hot water with an alkaline detergent. For this, use a nylon brush.
- Finally, rinse with clean water.
- Apply a primer
If the fiberglass cloth is pre-painted, it means the fiberglass is already primed. Otherwise, a universal primer will need to be applied.
- Apply the first coat of acrylic paint
First, the first coat must be acrylic paint! In fact, glycerin paint contains solvents that could affect the adhesive that holds the fiberglass cloth. To achieve a good result, follow these steps:
- First, using a brush, paint the corners of the walls and ceilings, as well as the doors and windows.
- On the other hand, paint large surfaces with the roller.
When painting with a roller, start by doing it vertically, then horizontally. Cover an area of one square meter.
- Apply a second coat
Now that you have applied the first coat of acrylic paint, you can choose the paint of your choice. At Monsieur Peinture, we recommend using only acrylic paints, which are less harmful to health and the environment.
To apply the paint, proceed in the same way as with the first coat. Finally, finish the application by smoothing from top to bottom, then remove the masking tape before it dries.
